Phrase Building

Note: The instructions on the actual activities are for printing the pages. Please use the instructions written here instead:

  • Skip the instructions page.

  • Begin on the first page of phrases.

  • Take turns with the student, reading each section line by line (the student reads one section, you read the next one, back and forth until all have been read). When it’s your turn to read, follow the words with your cursor so the student can follow along silently.

  • Once someone has finished reading a whole section, reread the last line together before moving on to the next one.

  • When you get to the passage at the end, have the student read the passage to you, take turns reading it, or read it together.

  • Once you finish reading all the sections, start again and time how long it takes for you and the student to finish all the sections. Record the time on their Progress Quest map by clicking on the “Phrase Building” button on the map. Then, in the next session, try to beat your previous score. You can make it a fun challenge!

  • This activity will automatically mark as complete on the Progress Quest map when one of the following occurs:

    • you record that all sections were completed in 1 minute or less

    • you have recorded 5 attempts at this activity on the Progress Quest map
